During an era when many of her studio recordings found Sarah Vaughan backed by large commercial orchestras, this live session reaffirmed her remarkable jazz talents. Accompanied by pianist Jimmy Jones, bassist Richard Davis and drummer Roy Haynes at a Chicago club, Sassy makes the standards sound as if they were written for her. High points include "September In the Rain," "Stairway to the Stars," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Poor Butterfly" and "Sometimes I'm Happy," but every selection is well worth hearing.
