Springsteen's massive commercial crossover happened largely because of the upbeat nature of most of these tracks--and that's upbeat in terms of tempo, not lyrics. Aside from the irony-drenched title track and "I'm On Fire," there's nothing really exceptional here--though we should give "Dancing In the Dark" its due as a very groovy pop record.
