(3/1/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- If you watched the Grammy Awards on Wednesday night (February 27), or if you're a fan of NASCAR racing, you've seen the new George Thorogood-inspired UPS commercial. The spot, dubbed "Brown To The Bone," features Thorogood urging Dale Jarrett to race the big brown UPS truck, all to the tune of "Bad To The Bone." Among the lines in the song are, "Dale races the truck/Fans gather 'round/They gazed in wide wonder/'Cause it's big and it's brown."
Thorogood told LAUNCH how he got hooked up with the campaign. "Somebody on their staff looked it up to see what was the most-used song for something--I can't remember what it was--and it was 'Bad To The Bone,' and they said, 'Well, that's the song we want. That's the guy we gotta get.' Then I got a phone call, and that was it. I'd like to say it was something glamorous--like, you know, I was at the Daytona 500 and Dale came up to the stands, threw his arm around me, and said, 'That was the greatest thing since Elvis Presley!' --but that's not how it happened."
There are three different commercials, all with the same Thorogood soundtrack, and they air during the weekly NASCAR races. The Grammys airing was the ad's first in prime time.
