(7/13/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - The news for American fans of British bands is both good and bad. The bad news? Acclaimed British trio the Manic Street Preachers have postponed its scheduled three-week tour of America because singer/ guitarist James Dean Bradfield's mother is seriously ill, according to a spokesperson from the band's label, Virgin Records. Meanwhile, veteran British act Echo & the Bunnymen has rescheduled the North American dates the band postponed in May (LAUNCH, 5/28). The postponement of the Manics' tour comes as the band has its sights set on a U.S. breakthrough after reaching new heights in popularity in the U.K. The Manics swept the Brit Awards, taking the honors for best album for This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, as well as best British band. The tour, which was to feature Remy Zero as a support act, was to kick off on Thursday (July 15) and run through Aug. 4. According to a statement released by Virgin, the tour is expected to be rescheduled for later this year. The Bunnymen's North American trek, in support of its latest album What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?, will now kick off Oct. 1 in Toronto and will run through Oct. 25 in Los Angeles. In other Bunnymen news, according to its official website (www.bunnymen.com), the band is expected to hit the studio in the next few weeks to record a cover of Thunderclap Newman's 1969 hit "Something In The Air" for inclusion on its forthcoming greatest-hits compilation.
