(9/9/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Simple Plan's debut album No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of more than one million units. The album was released in March 2002 and contains the hit singles "I'd Do Anything" and "Addicted," as well as the recently released song "Perfect."
Drummer Chuck Comeau and guitarist Sebastian Lefebvre told LAUNCH that they always hoped to have a platinum album, but at the same time they joked about the success.
Comeau said, "One million people made the huge mistake of buying a record."
Lefebvre added, "Joke's on them."
Comeau continued, "No, it's awesome. It's cool. You can never expect it, but only hope for things like that, and when they do happen it's kind of like--it's cool to take a step back and kind of go like, 'Wow!'"
Simple Plan spent the summer on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour, and very shortly they will announce the dates for a North American headlining tour with a soon-to-be announced special guest. The tour will kick off in early November, and will run through January 2004.
The Canadian rockers also have a DVD in the works, which will be released in November.
