Manics Reschedule U.S. Dates
08/12/1999 4:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(8/12/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - When Manic Street Preachers lead singer James Dean Bradfield's mother took ill in July, the band was forced to cancel its North American tour in support of its fifth album, This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours (LAUNCH, 7/13). As promised, the band has now announced a plan to return to North America in September for a month-long tour, beginning in Atlanta on Sept. 6, and ending in Los Angeles on Sept. 28 and 29. The North American tour will keep the band from attending the Manic Street Preachers convention, scheduled to take place on Sept. 25 at Cardiff University. The event is hosted by the Terrible Beauty fanzine, in conjunction with the Lego Street Preachers website. All proceeds from the event, which will feature speakers, auctions, and sales, as well as a performance by Patrick Jones (brother of the Preachers' Nicky Wire) will benefit the Kosovo Crisis Appeal. (The Manics contributed the track "She Is Suffering" to the Kosovo benefit album No Boundaries, which was released in June.) This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours has been nominated for the annual Mercury Prize, which is given to the best album released each year in the U.K. as determined by a panel of judges. The winner of the Mercury Prize will be announced on Sept. 7.
