Sergio George Leads Latin Grammy Nominees, Celia Cruz Remembered

(7/23/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Producer-songwriter Sergio George received six Latin Grammy Awards nominations to lead the pack going into the 4th annual ceremony, including record of the year, song of the year, and best tropical song for "Mi Premer Millon" by Bacilos, album of the year for Caraluna by Bacilos, and best tropical song for "La Salsa Vive" by Tito Nieves.
Singer-songwriter Juanes and producer Gustavo Santaolalla both earned five nominations. Juanes scored nods for record of the year and song of the year for "Es Por Ti," album of the year and best rock solo vocal album for Un Dia Normal, and best song for "Mala Gente."
Santaolalla's five nominations include album of the year, best classical album, producer of the year, and he earned two nods in the record of the year category. Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade and Anibal Kerpel received four nominations each.
The Latin Grammy Awards ceremony will make a special tribute to the "Queen of Salsa," Celia Cruz, who died last week. Her funeral was held yesterday, July 22 in New York.
The nominations for the 4th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced from the Mandarin Hotel in Miami. The show will be broadcast live on CBS on September 3 from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. It will be the first-ever Latin Grammy show to originate from South Florida.
Awards will be presented in 41 key Latin music categories.
