ZZ Top's 'Reverend Gibbons' Now Officially Ordained, Performs First Wedding
07/24/2002 12:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Jerry Armor
(7/24/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- His nickname has been "Reverend" for years, but now Billy F. Gibbons can legally use the title. The ZZ Top singer-guitarist has been ordained as Reverend Willy G, and he's already used the powers vested in him to perform a wedding.
Reverend Willy G officiated at the ceremony for a friend, George Thorogood & the Destroyers guitarist Jim Suhler, who married Lauri Bradshaw at a private ceremony in Houston, Texas, on June 28.
With his ecclesiastical duties taken care of, Gibbons is back in the recording studio, working on the next ZZ Top album with singer-bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. No release date has been set.
